Glow Fitness Studio prepares for grand opening, new fitness concept: Short Takes on Avon, Avon Lake and North – cleveland.com

North Ridgeville, Ohio
A new fitness gym is opening soon in North Ridgeville and the owners are simply glowing with excitement. The new concept interactive-style gym is one of only six in the country. It’s huge in Europe and is slowly making its way to the United States.
Glow Fitness Studio in North Ridgeville is a unique and innovative experience in which the room itself becomes the trainer with its interactive floors and walls, motivational music, fun lighting, and stunning projections.
Glow Fitness Studio, 39245 Center Ridge Road, officially opens at 10 a.m. Oct. 8 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Come check it out. Light refreshments and giveaways will also be part of the celebration.
“So we are putting CLE on the fitness map,” said co-owner Steve Beckett in an email. “My wife, Jessica, was introduced to this type of gym in Nashville with her aunt. She fell in love with the concept and we have decided to open one here in Northeast Ohio. Our gym is unique in the fact that it is completely interactive for the users. It has something for every level of fitness from the young kids to the Silver Sneakers, and everything in between. It can also be tailored for handicapped users all the way to sports teams.”
Beckett noted the gym is not a franchise gym. You also won’t find treadmills, rowers, bikes or strength equipment at the studio. It’s all high-intensity interval training (HIIT) style classes done in a circuit. Class sizes are small with only 16 spots available for each session. Keeping the classes small helps the trainer be able to give more individualized attention and help develop a sense of community. Glow Fitness Studio is a unique and innovative experience in which the room itself becomes the trainer with its interactive floors and walls, motivational music, fun lighting, and stunning projections.
“We own it out-right, however we are looking to open several of these gyms around the Cleveland area,” he said. “We would love to continue to open them all over Ohio and spread this great fitness tool for as many people as we can. There are two families that own the business. My wife and I, as well as Jon and Brittany Brookbank. We are all residents of North Ridgeville, and have been friends/neighbors for about five years.”

AVON
Sunflower field update: Last week I wrote about the new future home of the Prayers From Maria sunflower field which will be located on Jaycox Road north of Middleton Drive. A transitional location this year was still not disclosed by the Prayers From Maria Foundation, until now. Finally foundation officials posted on social media that the new transitional field location will be on Recreation Lane (the road into Crushers Stadium and the YMCA off State Route 611). Officials also noted they are hoping to open the shop and field to the public in early October when bloom is expected.

Cahoon house now open: It’s been nearly five years since the city began talks to purchase and renovate the historic Wilbur Cahoon Home, 2940 Stoney Ridge Road. In June 2019 City Council voted on an agreement to buy the home for $200,000 from Jean A. Fischer, trustee of the Jean A. Fischer Family Revocable Living Trust. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Since that time, it was determined that the home would become a museum to represent not just the Cahoon Family, but the many families who began coming to Avon in the 1800s. These included some familiar Avon names, such as Alten, Casper, DeChant, Jameson, Miller, Moon, Nagel, Norton-Townsend, Pickering, Riegelsberger and Schwartz.
The city’s business development consultant, Sheri Seroka, has worked tirelessly to collect artifacts from some of these significant founding families that were part of Avon’s heritage. Each room in the home is now set up just as it would have been in the 1800s.
This past April, a special ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the public to come and tour the home with the goal that one day the home would be open on a regular basis for everyone to enjoy, as well for future school field trips so that Avon students can see the history within the community.
City officials recently announced the home is now open to the public for tours on Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (times are subject to change). Admission and parking are free. For more information, contact Nicole Rambo-Ackerman at 440-937-7823.

Boutique pet shop opens: North Ridgeville resident Taylor Ruddy began his hand-poured, one-of-a-kind resin dog tag online business in 2017. Since then, business has grown and he recently opened a small shop, Moose and Lulu’s, at 690 Avon Belden Road (near Salad KraZe). Named after his two pups, Moose and Lulu, a majority of the shop is for warehousing and creating. According to Ruddy, a small boutique area in the front features more than 15 dog treat flavors and more than 80 of his best selling dog tags. Weiss Field trail update: Residents now have more walking trail options in the city as the new trails are open at Weiss Field winding through a large portion of the approximately 79 acres of the park.
According to information from the city, the project began, in part, because of resident Kathleen Satullo, who built the original bridge on the trails which became a popular route for walkers to get past the creek. The bridge was well-built, but would not be able to support multiple walkers at the same time.
Several walkers also reported that the conditions of the trails were very rough. At the same time, there was an excess of mulch that needed to be removed from the property at Public Works. The mulch was what the chipping crew had collected from curbs throughout the year in the city. The Weiss Field walking trails were an ideal home for the excess mulch. Crews began clearing fallen trees and overgrowth from the existing trails.
Once the trails had been cleared, the Public Works Department began designing the paths, fixing the bridge, and creating a small wildflower garden.
“I could not have been more proud of working with such a great team,” Darwin Ward, assistant public works director, said in a post on the city’s website. “We are still working on developing the trails, but it has been reported to me that if one were to walk all the paths, it would take about one and a half hours to complete.”
