August 25, 2022
Boise’s newest playground is now open at Franklin Park on the Boise Bench. The three-acre park is also home to a new outdoor gym. City leaders and project partners gathered for a ribbon cutting to dedicate the new amenities and invite residents of all abilities to explore.
“Boise has one of the best park systems in the nation and we continue to add new and exciting features for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “Franklin Park is centrally located on the Bench and provides a great opportunity for surrounding families to walk or bike to open space.”
The playground at Franklin Park includes accessible elements and features that provide opportunities for kids and parents who use mobility devices to recreate and interact with others. This includes the installation of a smooth bonded rubber surface material throughout the playground area. The playground equipment from Landscape Structures includes:

  • A Curva® Spinner that promotes experimentation with centrifugal force and cause-and effect
  • A Hedra® Tower that promotes navigation of a series of gliders, climbers, tunnels and slides
  • A Smart Play Motion with Play Table for toddlers and preschoolers encouraging exploration of motion, imagination and free play

Overall, playground features are designed to appeal to younger children ages two to five-years-old as well as including more challenging playground elements for older kids ages five through 12. There are also a series of interactive mister poles on site to keep park visitors cool.
“With more than 90 park locations across Boise, we are always looking for ways to introduce new and exciting elements to our system,” said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “This park now offers something for everyone from toddlers to adults, all while encouraging the benefits of outdoor recreation.”
The outdoor gym at Franklin Park includes a HealthBeat Circuit featuring equipment chosen for strength, cardio, balance and flexibility. Elements include a multi pull-up bar, hand cycler, ab crunch equipment and more. Shade sails are included at the outdoor gym to block the sun and there is bonded rubber surfacing throughout the area that increases safety while also making this amenity accessible for all users.
