A grand jury in Sangamon County has indicted a rental car owner on a fraud charge.
Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright said Thursday that Jordan Monroe, 31, of Chatham, who owns Urgent Rent-a-Car, 2720 Stevenson Drive, was indicted in Sangamon County Circuit Court on one count of insurance fraud.
Monroe had been charged June 29 with attempting to defraud National Interstate Insurance Co. by filing a false claim on Feb. 13, 2021 for a policy that was more than $300 but less than $10,000.

Urgent previously had been under investigation by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office for failing to meet insurance requirements. As a result, the company’s license plates were removed for a time.
The company said an audit by the Secretary of State’s office confirmed the validity of the license plates and a new insurance policy from Nationwide General Auto Insurance, effective in February.
Monroe has denied any wrongdoing.
