LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI – A Whitmore Lake gym owner faces a felony involving a girl who worked at his gym.
Jermain Martinez, 42, was arraigned on one felony count of accosting a minor for immoral purposes, Aug. 2, court records show.
It is unclear exactly what Martinez is accused of doing. The Green Oak Township Police Department could not be reached for comment.
According to Michigan law, a person guilty of accosting a child for immoral purposes is defined as anyone who, whether they know the victim is a minor or not, forces that child or individual to commit an immoral act, submit to an act of sexual intercourse or an act of gross indecency, or to any other act of depravity or delinquency.
Martinez, owner of iTumble, 11019 Hi Tech Drive, Whitmore Lake, was charged after a former gym employee and athlete of the establishment, now 17, made a complaint about Martinez, records show.
Police investigated the accusation and sent their findings to the Livingston County Prosecutors Office which authorized charges.
The gym is currently closed.
Martinez is scheduled for a probable cause conference hearing Tuesday, Aug. 9. Bond was set at $30,000 cash or surety.
Accosting a minor for immoral purposes is punishable by up to four years in prison.
