India head coach Rahul Dravid provided an update on Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness with an eye on the T20 World Cup next month in Australia.
Dravid refused to rule out India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in October, citing that his participation in the global tournament would depend on the extent of the injury and the rehabilitation.
“Jadeja, he has injured his knee. Obviously, he is ruled out for the Asia Cup,” Dravid said in the press conference. “He’s under the care of the medical team, he has gone to see the doctors, he has gone to see the experts.
“The World Cup is a fair way away, so we don’t want to jump to any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We’ll see how it goes.”
While reports have surfaced on his unavailability for the tournament, the head coach declined to make too many comments.
“It’s part of sports. People get injured. It’s part of our job to try and manage them, manage how it goes. A lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury. We’ll see how it goes.
“I don’t want to rule him out or make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and we have a better idea. Specially the World Cup is 6-7 weeks away now.”
Dravid was speaking ahead of India’s clash against Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup on Sunday. India made it to the round after wins against Pakistan and Hong Kong in the group stage.
Last night, Pakistan recorded their biggest win in T20Is to set up the clash against India in the next round. Jadeja, who played the first two matches of the tournament, was subsequently ruled out with Axar Patel replacing him in the squad.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is coming to Australia from 16 October to 13 November 2022.

Three extraordinary all-rounders have made the shortlist for ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August 2022.
